FOCUS on Festivals

Bull Run Festival of Lights | Nova Parks

This NoVA classic continues through January 8 and is always a crowd pleaser.  Old Man Winter can’t stop you from extending the holidays in the comfort of your own car as you drive through the 2.5-mile display of holiday lights with a cup of coffee or hot cocoa. Throw on your pjs and play your holiday favorites for a night you won’t soon forget.

DC Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown, Washington DC

This parade is always a fan favorite and gives an important nod to the start of the Lunar or Chinese New Year.  This year is depicted by the year of the Rabbit.  People born in the year of the rabbit are thought to be clever, compassionate and generous. Celebrations include fireworks, which are believed to ward off evil spirits.  Join the fun by wearing red, which is said to bring good fortune, and enjoy an afternoon of food and festivities!

January 22Parade starts at 2:00 PM with events all day Chinatown, DC

DMV Winter Lantern Festival @ Lerner Town Square at Tysons II, VA

This exciting new event located in the Tysons II area features more than 1000 Chinese lanterns, all handmade and featured in a show of lights. Besides being fascinated by these incredible creations, you can learn about Chinese folklore and enjoy interactive displays.  Don’t forget your camera, as you’ll want to capture these beautiful displays!

FOCUS on Arts & Entertainment

Second Saturday Art Walk — Workhouse Arts Center

Too cold for outdoor activities?  Come stroll through the Lorton workhouse campus studio buildings and view original artwork.  The talented artists will be on-site to discuss their musings, their inspiration and answer questions about their pieces.  In addition, the gift shop and Lucy Burns Museum are open extended hours for guests to enjoy as well.

Second Annual Capital City Classic Ax Throwing Tournament | Sterling, VA 20166 (visitloudoun.org)

Was your NYE resolution to try new things?  Visit new places?  Well, if so, this event will foot the bill. Come watch the best ax throwers in the nation at the Second Annual Capital City Classic as contestants compete to win a $10,000 prize pool.  We think you will leave thinking you hit a bullseye!  The best part is that admission is free.

 Wicked | Kennedy Center

Enjoy this Broadway sensation that portrays the Wizard of Oz in a whole new light.  A story of rivalry, friendship between the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the good witch.  The music, sets, and costumes are breathtaking. Will you change your mind and see the Wicked Witch in a whole new light? Either way, you will undoubtedly be able to relate to the underlying message and be dazzled by this performance.

Blue Sky Puppets: Three Not-So-Little Pigs

Grab the kids for this hilarious puppet show put on by the infamous Blue Sky Puppets and head on over to the Franklin Park Performing Arts Center.  Meet Mrs. Pig , Little Yellow, Little Blue, Little Red and Bernard as they navigate the challenges of learning how to cooperate!  We guarantee laughs for the whole family.

Monster Jam Arena Championship Series

Feel the excitement and the rumble of fun as you watch your favorite Monster Trucks tear up the track and attempt jumps, spins and demolition stunts.  With legendary Grave Digger, El Toro Loco, Monster Mutt and Wild Side roaring through the arena, you might even consider taking in a Pit Party where you get to see the trucks up close.

Ice Skating & Fun – Reston Town Center

Nothing says winter wonderland like ice skating outdoors. Enjoy skating under the pavilion adored with twinkling lights at the Reston Towne Center.  Rental skates are available in both hockey or figure skates styles from youth size 8 to adult 15.  They even offer double bladed skates for the beginners who need a bit more stability.  Warm up at Starbucks with a hot cocoa or grab a meal at the plethora of choices within walking distance from the rink.

Paw Patrol Live – EagleBank Arena

We know you die hard Paw Patrol fans won’t want to miss the live show coming to Eagle Bank Arena on February  3-5, 2023.  Join your favorite pups – Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rocky, Rubble, Everest, Tracker and Zuma as they take on adventures with Ryder.  Sure to please fans of all ages, tickets are on sale now and going fast.
