Fall is in the air and we have a variety of Fall festivals and events coming up this month to fill your October calendar as well as ghoulish things to do on Halloween.

Art on the Avenue
A celebration on multicultural art and music – this festival is located in the Alexandria in the heart of the Del Ray neighborhood. With over 300 artisans, musicians and food vendors there is something for everyone.  There are plenty of kids activities as well, including stuff-your-own scarecrow, paint a pumpkin, lotus flower design and weave screen art.

Mount Vernon Historic Plant and Garden Sale
Calling all green thumbs! Stop by Mount Vernon and shop for annual flowers plus native perennials, trees, and shrubs grown in Mount Vernon’s greenhouses.

34th Annual Leesburg Car Show
In its 34th year the Leesburg Car Show is a wonderful family event. Over 150 classic, muscle, street rods and more. Vote for your favorite car in 32 different categories. All profits benefit the Academies of Loudoun.

Vienna Oktoberfest
Come on out to the town green for a fun day celebrating Oktoberfest. There will be live music and performances all day on three different stages, a beer garden, food, a special children’s entertainment stage, a Bavarian Car Show as well as an artisan marketplace.

Virginia Wine Festival
Taste over 100 Virginia wines at this popular event. Entry includes a free wine glass and unlimited tastings.  There are several food options available including an oyster pavilion and live music all day.

Fort Belvoir 24th Annual Oktoberfest
A fun filled 4 day event encompassing authentic German cuisine, beverages, music, and dancing. There is a beer garden, carnival rides, bouncy house, a 5K/10K walk, live music and dance performances all weekend.

City of Fairfax Fall Festival
In its 49th year and a favorite of locals, this outdoor festival includes over 400 arts, crafts, food & gourmet food vendors.  There is live music and dance performances on three stages as well as three beer gardens. There are carnival rides for the kids as well as a children’s entertainment stage.  The festival ends with a late night concert from 5:30-8:30 at the Old Town Square.

Clifton Day Festival
A day full of activities. Over 150 artisans, antique and vintage vendors selling their wares. There is also live music, children’s activities, a beer and wine garden and pony rides just to name a few activities. Consider taking the train to the festival. Clifton Day is the only day of the year when the train stops in the town. VRE will provide roundtrip train service to Clifton from all stops between Manassas and Rolling Road. The train ride to Clifton is free and the return trip costs $5 per person.

Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour
Taste wine from over 100 wineries after hours at Mount Vernon. Bring a blanket to sit on and sip wine from 20 Virginia wineries as you overlook the beautiful gardens of Mount Vernon and the Potomac.

Capital Art and Crafts Festival
Get a jump on your holiday shopping at this festival that holds over 200 juried artisans and their unique craft and wares in a variety of mediums.

Halloween Fun For the Kiddies

Boo at the Zoo
Have fun visiting the zoo after dark and trick or treating at this popular and beloved family-friendly Halloween event. Visitors get access to after hours animal viewing, a dance party, souvenir tote bag and 30 trick-or-treat stations around the zoo.

Vienna Halloween Parade
Dress in your favorite halloween costume and join the parade – or just come by and watch the many floats, bands, dancers and cars as they parade by. Trick or treaters can pick up one of 1000 goody bags which are handed out at the end of the parade route.

Ghost Town at Burke Lake Park
Spend the day at Burke Lake Park with lots of fun activities including goblin golf, pumpkin painting, a trick or treat house, the carousel, train rides and more.

Halloween Fun for The Older Crowd

Workhouse Haunt
Take a scary stroll through the abandoned building of the Workout Arts Center formerly the Lorton Prison.  Meet zombies, swamp creatures and more terrify those who choose to talk through the haunt.

Cox Farms Field of Fear
Take a walk, if you dare, through 20 acres of haunted trails and scary attractions.  For those looking for a less scary experience you can hit the dance floor, do karaoke or warm up by the fire.

Clifton Haunted Trail
After a 3 year hiatus the Clifton Haunted Trail is back. Walk along this scary trail in Clifton where many of the historic Civil War homes are said to be haunted and hear about the legendary Bunnyman.
